Congratulations to Roland Kawakami, OSU professor of physics and NeXUS PI, for his selection to the 2024 class of Fellows to the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). The AAAS Fellowship is a lifetime recognition, awarded for scientifically or socially distinguished efforts to advance science or its applications. It is considered one of the most prestigious honors a U.S. scientist can receive.
Kawakami was recognized for his seminal contributions to spintronics and magnetism in two-dimensional materials, and for the investigation of epitaxial magnetic films and heterostructures using molecular beam epitaxy and surface-sensitive characterizations. As a PI for the NSF NeXUS Facility, Kawakami directed the design, construction, and verification of the angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) subsystem in collaboration with Thomas Allison of Stony Brook University.
