The NeXUS User Group includes past and potential users, workshop participants, and anyone who has expressed an interest in NeXUS capabilities or collaboration.
Nominate an Individual to the User Committee - Self-Nomination Welcome
The NSF NeXUS User Committee is a group of potential or active users of the NeXUS facility who support NeXUS users as an independent voice, communicating with NSF and the NeXUS director on behalf of the user community.
The following research specialties, at minimum, shall be represented by the committee members:
1. atomic molecular, and optical physics.
2. Photochemistry.
3. condensed matter/materials science.
To fulfill its purpose, the User Committee (UC) will:
• Meet at least once annually with the Facility Director to receive information about NeXUS operations and to share information from the UC.
• Solicit input from NeXUS users on their experience with NeXUS and other topics relevant to NeXUS operations.
• Issue an annual report to the NSF summarizing UC activity and providing feedback on NeXUS operations.
• Organize events for NeXUS users to support them and update them on NeXUS topics.
Consistent with the vision of NeXUS as an ecosystem that will level the scientific playing field, the UC will ensure a strong voice to early career faculty and researchers from primarily undergraduate and minority serving institutions.
The User Committee meets at least once a year (remotely) with the NeXUS Director, and submits one written annual report per year to NSF. The committee will help define the structure and scope of the facility's annual user workshops, and provide in-person representation at the user workshop.
UC members will serve for a 3-year term, with the option to stand for re-election once for a consecutive term.
1 Vote in committee elections.
Election of UC members will take place at lease once per year. All NeXUS User Group members - which includes any researcher or student who has indicated an interest in collaborating in experiments at NeXUS - are eligible to vote in UC elections.
2 Stand for election to the committee.
The NeXUS User Committee has a target membership of 9 and a minimum membership of 4. Employees of The Ohio State University are not eligible to be members of the UC. The UC will have a chair appointed by the NeXUS Facility Director from the current committee membership.
